I just had to share this photo of my son (#70) and his best friend on Friday Night. It was the big kick off event for the football team. This is a photo I thought we might never see. My son's best friend was injured in a sledding accident in January and spent 4 months in the hospital (6 weeks of which he was in a coma). He might not be playing football again, but he will always be part of the team. It was a very emtional night - for everyone!

oh wow, that gave me major goosebumps!

I know - I tear up every time I look at it.

It is going to be a long teary football season for a lot of us, that is for sure. Danny was our star lineman. (being recruited to play for OSU as well as about 30 other schools) He had a reputation way beyond our team. His accident effected not just our small down but communities across the entire state who have witnessed him play football. I know that every game this season will be an outpouring of effection for him no matter who's field we are going to be playing on. He is that well loved. (poor thing though - he HATES to be the center of attenion. he had better get used to it, that is all I have to say. after an accident like that when they didn't even think he would make it - to being back on with the team this fall - it is a huge testiment to his will.)

ya, and this boy's spirit is amazing! Everyone thought he would be so devistated to see his college football career over before it got started - but no - he was just thankful to be alive when he woke up. And he hasn't stopped being thankful one moment since. He is amazing. No wonder we all love him so!

I can almost hear the "Rudy! Rudy!" chants in the background (a ManClub reference to the only movie that guys are allowed to cry during).

We had something similar to this happen at my high school after I graduated. Our quarterback was the star. His receiver was also his best friend. The receiver went up to catch a pass and came down on his neck. He lost the use of his legs fo the rest of his life.

The quarterback was Joseph Addai who went on to play running back with the LSU Tigers and is now with the Indianapolis Colts. When they won the SuperBowl, they did a big piece about the two of them. Joseph made sure he was at the SuperBowl and got to participate in all the actitivies. He's taken care of the family.

And thanks for keeping Danny in your thoughts throughout this year - I truly believe that it was the power of prayer that pulled him through it! It was a difficult time - but one that we are thankful for. It really made us appreciate our own lives even more. And our friends!
